DQ250 TCU Information

The internal computer for the DSG is known as the TCU.  It will control all functions of the DSG.

Some facts about the TCU are:

1) The TCU is the computer that is imbedded on the valve body, will labels it as the mechatronic.

2) Most TCUs from 2008-2013 can be used with the MaxxECU, regardless if the TCU is from the same transmission it came with originally.  When using the TCU in this way, you can mix and match mechatronics without any issue as long as the correct software is flashed onto it

3) There are hundreds of versions of software on the TCU, however if its from an "02E927770AL" labeled mechatronic (will be shown on the physical device or read via software) then you can swap these around and flash any of the software without an issue.

4) The major issue with not flashing the right software onto the TCU will be the gear ratios.  Nothing will put the car into limp mode faster than if the TCU cannot calculator the gear ratio correctly.  If you swap mechatronics and the gear ratio is different, flash the original tune on it.

5) Most hardware failures are not a fault of the mechatronics.  It is a fault with how well the DSG was maintained.  The fluid is rated for 40k from VW.  Most people never changed fluid that early.  The clutch material will run through the fluid and can damage valves/solenoids.  However, I have had plenty of 100k-140k mechatronics that never had a issue and no stored error codes either.

6) You can "tune" the TCU a few different ways:

a) Pay someone to flash a tune - this is the easiest to do but hardest to find.  No VW shop wants to flash a tune onto a 2GR/2AR swapped DSG from my experience.

b) Use HP Tuners.  You can pay credits to unlock the TCU on your transmission to tune everything.  You will need a factory GTI/A3 ECU to fool HP tuners to grab that ECU's VIN to register the transmission.  The ECU will need to be powered and placed into the CANBUS lines that the transmission is on.  You wont need the ECU all the time for tuning.  This will allow you to tune the transmission shift times, speed limits, etc

c) Flash Engineer Freely tune on it (inquire through my contact button).  I have a tune that removes all the limits on the transmission, removes auto shift up, speeds up shift time, etc.  (you will need a Kess V2 to do the flashing).

d) StageX.ai - recently found this but appears you can upload your .bin files (that you can pull with the KessV2) and make adjustments on 100 different tables.    I have not tested this much out so far, but appears to be similar to HP tuners, bur cloud based.
